BA cuts in-flight food

All food on short haul flights will be axed in an effort to save £22m. It will affect most flights to ski destinations in Europe.
The cash-strapped airline is starting the measure next week.
However the standard of food has fallen so much in recent years that many passengers probably won’t grumble.
Currently people get a sandwich but from next week they will get a bag of nuts or other snack only.
The airline says the catering would still be a "full service", with those flying before 10am continuing to be served breakfast.
Yum yum or yuk yuk?"When you fly with British Airways, the in-flight catering is top-class and, unlike some other airlines, it is free," a BA spokesman said. "It is not unusual to make small changes to avoid waste and save money where it makes sense and it meets customers' changing tastes."
Other plans reportedly under consideration are removing chocolates and Jacobs crackers from first class passengers, taking away hot towels in Club Class, and axing complimentary packets of pretzels in economy.
The airline BMI says it will continue to offer free food.
“It’s interesting to see that BA has decided that removing in-flight catering should be part of its ongoing cost cutting programme,” says bmi managing director Peter Spencer.
“As a contrast, we will continue to offer our customers a choice of catering plus outstanding value fares and the best customer service in the industry. Every airline has to operate cost effectively but we don’t believe stripping away customer benefits is the right strategy.”
No frills, no foodBudget carriers have always sold food and drink as an optional extra.
Easyjet has revealed that the average passenger pays £10 per flight in so-called "ancillary revenues" - which includes items sold on board as well as checked-in baggage charges.
Our advice at PlanetSKI is take a sandwich or some food with you that you have made at home, it will be much cheaper and considerably tastier.
All in all flying nowdays is not what it once was.
Some airline food is pretty awful and here is one hilarious complaint letter from a passenger who took a long haul flight with Virgin adressed to, and answered by, Sir Richard Branson himself.
