Secrets of pre-historic hut

The hut, in the Silvretta mountains near the Austrian border, goes back to 800 BC according to carbon dating tests.

The hut which is at 2,200m slept up to 6 people and though it is known man was in the mountains at this time it has not be proven that he lived there once the winter was over.

A team from Zurich University made the discovery and carried out the excavation works.

It’s thought Iron Age man tended cattle and made cheese too and moved to the higher reaches of the Alps as the pastures were better for grazing.

The scientists are conducting a series of other digs in the upper areas of the Alps to see how man lived in those times.
