The world’s longest magic carpet

Swiss resort of Leukerbad is considering installing a new magic carpet conveyor lift that will be 410m long.
It would mean people could use the carpet to get to another ski lift rather than take a bus.
In addition it might be enclosed by a weather protection tunnel over its entire length that would help create a small wind protected ski lift near to the village.
It would also provide access for walkers, summer and winter, people in wheel chairs and children in buggies.
Quite a liftIt will also create a sledging/snowtubing run with the long term plan of offering summer tubing on an artificial surface slope.
“Ideally, the magic carpet would be operational from December 2010, but there is still a lot to do and agreements have to be reached with the land owners,” said a resort spokesman, David Kesterns. “The plans and project group are there but so far it is still a project, and nothing is definitive yet.”
Leukerbad is well-known for its natural thermal baths and is a particular favourite of ours at PlanetSKI even though it is realtively undiscovered by the British.
