Into the gorge - Krystyna Chauncey, Saas-Fee
Sunday August 23, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

Our adventurous reporter has tried the ropes and bridges in the trees now it’s time for the real thing; a descent down a gorge in Saas-Fee using zip wires, ladders, ropes and bridges.

If us women remembered the pain of giving birth then we’d probably never do it more than once.

This thought occurred to me as my legs dangled over a 50m drop into a gorge and I had to launch myself into thin air to slide down a zip wire.

You may have read my earlier story from Saas-Fee where my 3 children persuaded my to go into The Adventure Forest.

It was scary to start with, but then great fun.

Our safety in his handsOur safety in his handsHowever, I soon forgot the scary moments and somehow agreed to go to the next level up; The Alpine Gorge.

A group of mountains guides from Saas-Fee created the route down the gorge from the village of Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund. It takes about 3 hours.  3 hours of adrenellin-filled adventure.

It is, of course, totally safe and when I did it with my children we had Andi Siegel as our mountain guide ensuring all the ropes were correctly tied and everything was safe.

For a look at what it was like take a look at the pictures in The Photos of the Week, on the home page of the web site.

It was quite an adventure!
