Lightest backpack yet
Monday September 14, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

Osprey has launched a range of 3 snowsports packs, the Kode Series. They're designed for back-country and ski touring.

The company says the Kode 38 is believed to be the lightest snowsports pack, at 38 grams per litre, currently on the market.

The models suited for back-country skiing are the Kode 22 and the Kode 30, and for ski touring choose either the Kode 30 or the Kode 38.

Each pack is equipped with plenty of technical features including wet and dry compartments so probes, shovels and transceivers are kept separate from dry clothes & food.

The frame of the Kode 30 and 38 models is made from lightwire for support and easy loading.

On the Kode 22 and 30 models helmet storage is via a zip away stretch-mesh panel, while the Kode 38 has an expandable helmet pocket.

They are available in black and Alpenglow (rust) and in small, medium and large sizes. Prices start at £80.

One of the people involved in the product development was the extreme skier, Fredrik Ericsson, who is a PlanetSKI reader and his written for us too. He is sponsored by Osprey.  Sadly though his last trip ended in the death of his skiing and climbing partner.
