CHEAP SKIING FOR KIDS
Wednesday March 1, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

Schools that could have the next Dave Ryding or Katie Ormerod in their classes are being urged to sign up their pupils for free or heavily discounted lessons. NEW

More than 20 slopes across England are taking part in the second National Schools Snowsport Week.

It's on from 24th to 30th April, so there's not much time left to get involved.

PlanetSKI reported on the launch of the inaugural event last year and afterwards when it was declared a success.

In 2016 more than 1,000 pupils from 149 schools took part.

Run by Snowsport England and sponsored by Visit Andorra, it has the support of Britain's top alpine ski racer, Dave Ryding, and fellow Winter Olympians Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, Aimee Fuller and Graham Bell.

It aims to give pupils at primary and secondary schools, as well as students at sixth form colleges, the chance to try skiing or snowboarding either free or at hugely discounted prices.

Ryding, who recently became the first Briton to secure an Alpine World Cup podium in 35 years, sees it as a great opportunity.

"I would strongly encourage any teacher who has a slope nearby to get involved in National Schools Snowsport Week and give their pupils the chance to give skiing or snowboarding a go," he says.

"I started skiing on a dry slope when I was at school, and it is the best thing I have ever done! I loved getting out on the slopes after school and at weekends."

Schools can join in with whole classes, whole year groups, or just a handful of students.

Offers include free one-hour ski and snowboard taster sessions for school groups at the Snowdome in Tamworth, whilst at Runcorn Snowsports Centre the 60-minute taster sessions are just £1.00.

At Skiplex in Reading and Basingstoke and also at Plymouth Ski and Snowboard Centre taster sessions are £5.00 and at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead one-hour taster sessions will be £10.00 per pupil during National Schools Snowsport Week.
