Finnish X Games snowboarder builds an ice park in his back yard and carves out a fully functional sauna from blocks of ice. Pardon?

Twenty-five year old Finnish Snowboarder, Roope Tonteri, ended seventh in the recent Oslo X Games big air competition and has just competed in the Freestyle World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain.

So what does a Finnish snowboarder do in his spare time?

When not competing, Roope hangs out at his cabin, located in the middle of the pristine Finnish landscape, next to a lake at Kouvola.

In February this year he tackled a new project to build himself an ice park.

He used snow and ice and, armed with a chainsaw, he carved out rails for an ice park and then carved out a building made from blocks of ice for his sauna.

Yes, that does sound like a bit of a contradiction as you would imagine the heat from the sauna would melt the ice.

Not so!

In fact it seems to work magnificently - watch the video for the evidence.

The Finnish athlete grew up in the small town of Kouvola, where his early life revolved around skateboarding.

At the age of nine, there was a subtle transition from concrete to snow.

Tonteri ditched the wheels permanently, switched to a snowboard and since then he's never looked back.
