Engine failure over Austria
Friday October 9, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
A plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Salzburg airport near the Alps. One report says an engine fell off. No-one was hurt.
The Dash 8-400 had 30 passengers on board and was on its way to Geneva from Budapest. The propeller driven plane was being run by the Hungarian airline, Malev.
Some reports say one of its engines actually fell off the plane, while others say that it simply malfunctioned.
The pilot contacted the airport and he was cleared to make an immediate emergency landing.
Passenegers were put up overnight in nearby hotels and have now continued with their journey.
It is unclear what caused the incident and a full investigation is now underway by safety officials.
