The cost of a season's lift pass for next winter is coming down as the Scottish resort operator changes its pricing structure. It follows a dreadful season for the Scottish ski industry. NEW

The company that runs the resort, Natural Retreats, is introducing a completely new pricing structure, including an additional early booking discount, which is available until the end of June.

"We really value the loyalty our season pass holders show us year after year, and appreciate that this has been a poor season for everyone," says the company's marketing manager, Emma Beagrie.

"Our prices for the 17/18 season are extremely competitive. For example, the adult season pass, which is our most popular, is 15% cheaper than last year even if purchased in November at full price.

"We hope that customers won't be put off by this season's poor weather."

CairnGorm had to cancel 2,000 lessons this winter and there were fears of job losses as the lack of snow affected revenue.

In another initiative to mitigate the effects of poor winter seasons, Natural Retreats is hoping to turn CairnGorm into a "world-class" ski area, building an artificial ski slope to provide snowsports year-round, as we reported in our earlier article.

Season passes for 2017-18 are on sale from today at a pre-early bird discounted rate of £245.

The price will go up to £280 from the beginning of July to October.

The full prices kick in from November when the adult season pass will cost £375.

Season passes will all be valid from the 1st November for 12 months.   Anyone with current season passes that expire before this date will still be able to use their existing passes until 31st October.
