Ski Club GB launches new ski weeks in the Austrian glacier resort of Stubai - Don't know much about the resort? Read on... NEW

The Tirol's famous glacier resort of Stubai is the place in the Alps for summer and winter skiing.

It's where PlanetSKI kicked off the season last winter.

The slopes rise to 3,210m meaning that skiing extends through much of the year - the winter season starts in October.

The resort is home to more than 64km of pistes.

It has decent ski-touring routes and is also popular for intermediate and advanced skiers.

The ‘Wilde Grube’ route is a popular one; a challenging 10km descent.

The struggle, October last year:

There is an average of one-to-two hours of ascents each day.

A seven-night holiday costs from £1,099 pp (two sharing).

It includes half-board accommodation in a three-star superior room and six days with a mountain guide.

Return fights, transfers, other meals and lift passes are extra.

A six-day lift pass costs €224 per adult with a Stubai guest card.

Stubai boasts the most expensive lift built in the Alps.

The 3S Eisgrat lift cost a cool €68m.

"It is very important for us.  It is a new design that will allow us to run the lift even in high-winds and it will work in conjunction with the other main base lift so we can transport more people up the mountain," the CEO of the lift company, Andreas Kleinlercher, told PlanetSKI.

"We have so many people wanting to ski in Stubai, especially at this time of year and queues have been a problem for us. Not any more," added Kleinlercher.
