THE NORWAY SKI SOLUTION
Tuesday September 12, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

As one of the most successful nations to compete in the Winter Olympics, we have to assume the skiing in Norway is pretty good. NEW

So let's ski there this season!

The UK tour operator, Ski Solutions, is offering up a range of Norwegian ski destinations this coming season.

Try one of these resorts:
  • Beitostolen
  • Geilo
  • Myrkdalen
  • Trysil
Geilo is situated between two national parks with some spectacular scenery.

Beitostolen is ideal for families and just 45 minutes from the airport.

Myrkdalen claims to be one of the most snow-sure resorts in Europe and is Norway's biggest, while Trysil is the country's most popular and varied.

PlanetSKI's chief reporter, Jane Peel, spent 3 days in Trysil last winter.

See below for her daily blog if you want to get a flavour of the place:

A promise of snow is pretty appealing to us right now...

It's more peaceful than its Alpine rivals with the resorts and without crowds, plus top notch lift systems we expect of Norway.

Norwegian snow is dry - it's more like that of Canada & America than the rest of Europe.

Why?

Because it is cold and that means dry, light powder.

Many resorts are so snow-sure that they'll refund your lift ticket if there's a shortage of the white stuff.

And our editor, James Cove, is a BIG fan of Norway.

He was there in December a couple of years ago when it had the best snow in Europe.
And of course he has done one of his infamous road trips in Norway. The last time with his eldest son:
November - April is the run time of the impressively long season in Norway.

The groomed pistes suit beginner and intermediate skiers well and then there's the dry powder and usually a lot of it for those more advanced.

It doesn't have the steepness and vertical of the Alps and the Rockies - but it gets great powder.

The focus is on families - children are well looked after too with kids clubs and crèche facilities, and also a number of gentle ski areas specifically for children.

Advanced skiers will have something to challenge them too, with some decent off-piste powder fields,  snow parks and a few testing groomed black runs too.

The activities on offer in Norway make it appealing for family ski holidays:
