The gongs have been handed out in the annual and prestigious World Snow Awards. So, who has won what?

The World Snow Awards aims to recognise the best in the snowsports world.

This time the Resort of the Year goes to an area, not a single resort.

Step forward the Arlberg area in Austria after it put in a new gondola linking St Anton with Lech, transforming the area to make it the largest linked ski area in Austria.

The ski area of Stuben near the base of the new linking lift has also been upgraded with new lifts and new terrain.

Family resort of the year goes to Steamboat in Colorado.

It has always been a great resort for kids and big kids alike and last season added a roller coaster on its slopes and a 40 ft climbing wall in the base area.

"We're honored to be recognised as a top family resort in the world," said Nicole Miller, digital communications manager for Steamboat Ski Resort.

"The significant investment Steamboat made this summer in base area activities and gondola upgrades was done with families in mind."

The prestigious awards were handed out by Henry Druce from Telegraph Ski & Snowboard.

They are decided by public vote and a panel of experts judges some of the categories.

Our editor, James Cove, is on the panel and there is more about how their decision are reached and others on the panel lower down this article.
