PARIS TRANSFERS
Tuesday October 31, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

The newest kind of transfer: With rail travel to ski resorts being a top tip this season, here's how to simplify the trickiest part: the Paris cross.

High speed train journeys can be a far more enjoyable way to travel than flying.

And in a bid to make them even easier the founder of Snowcaebon Daniel Elkan has worked with transfer company Ben's Bus to smooth out the Paris cross...

You can take a shuttle between your Eurostar and your TGV train that'll take you to the resort on Saturdays this winter.

Shuttle it from Paris Gare du Nord - met at the end of the Eurostar platform even - and to Paris Gare de Lyon where you set off for the Alps to save yourself a metro journey.

20 minutes is the transfer time.

Perfect if you have skis to carry, lots of luggage or a wayward member of the group likely to get lost...

"A Paris shuttle service specifically for skiers has never existed before," Daniel from Snowcarbon says.

"This will help many more skiers to have a smooth and sustainable journey by train.

"There are plenty of fantastic resorts you can reach via Paris, and lots of skiers discovering the benefits of rail travel.

"The direct Eurostar Ski Train sold out in record time for February half term and regrettably Eurostar has cancelled its via-Lyon service for the 2017-18 ski season.

"So it's more important than ever to make it easier for skiers to travel via Paris."

The TGV trains connected by these new transfer-shuttles serve over 50 ski resorts in France, Switzerland and Italy.

"High-speed rail is the ideal way for winter sports enthusiasts to travel, with plenty of space to relax on board, and a generous luggage allowance," Eurostar's director of communications, Mary Walsh, says.

"We welcome any news that makes it easier for travellers to take the train to the slopes, and the new Paris Shuttle Service will make it easier for those that aren't travelling on the direct ski service to make their way between the two stations in Paris."

"Helping skiers travel by train is an important goal for us, both in terms of journey-quality and to contribute to a sustainable future for the Alps," the director of France Montagnes, Jean-Marc Silva, says.

"The launch of these shuttles helps join the dots for skiers  - so it is excellent news."

Ski tour operators believe that the service will be useful for their customers, too.

"We have a lot of clients who are interested in travel by train via Paris," MD of Erna Low tour operator, Jane Bolton, says.

"Whilst some are happy crossing Paris on the RER (Metro), there are others - for example families, first timers or those who want to be able to bring the kitchen sink - for whom this will be a real benefit."

  • This winter the service will run every Saturday from February 3rd to April 7th 2018
  • A return transfer costs £22 and a one-way transfer £14
  • 10% discounts for children and for groups of four or more.

"Although Ben's Bus has been running great-value shared airport transfers for years, we've always loved the idea of skiers being able to travel to the Alps by train," Ben's Bus founder, Ben Keown, comments.

While it's not going to be a big money maker for us, it's a contribution that we can make towards Alpine sustainability."
