KATIE O FLIES THE FLAG - Jane Peel, Chief Reporter
Tuesday November 14, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

She's targeting two medals at the Winter Olympics & few would bet against her. Snowboarder Katie Ormerod talks to PlanetSKI.

Most 20-year-olds heading for their first Olympic Games would have a few nerves.

But Katie Ormerod is no ordinary 20-year-old.

She is Great Britain's leading female freestyle snowboarder with an impressive haul of medals from elite competitions.

She picked up her latest one at the weekend, a silver in the first Big Air event of the season in Milan.

It's almost no longer news when she makes the podium, which is why she is being touted as probably Britain's best hope of a medal on snow at Pyeongchang in February.

If that puts pressure on her young shoulders, she shows no sign of it.

In fact she is confident - as long as she can stay healthy and uninjured - that she can bring home not one but two medals from South Korea.

She will compete in the Big Air - making its Olympic debut at Pyeongchang -  and Slopestyle events.

She's come a long way since her dad strapped a board onto her feet when she was five and stuck her on their local dryslope at Halifax in West Yorkshire.

PlanetSKI spoke to Ormerod at an event for the media to meet GB athletes ahead of Pyeongchang and just before her latest World Cup success in Milan.

She was in huge demand for interviews and photo shoots, but we managed to pin her down for a quick chat.
