INDOOR SKI CENTRE REOPENS
Thursday November 30, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

A ski centre in London's Chiswick has re-opened as a new concern after the previous business went bust in the summer. NEW

Skieasy is the new name for the centre, which is on the same site as Dukes Meadows Golf and Tennis.

Skieasy took over the old Skiplex location from liquidators in October and have given it a major refurbishment.

Skiplex closed its Chiswick centre and two others in Reading and Basingstoke without warning at the end of June after running out of money.

We reported on the reasons for its demise at the time.

Like Skiplex, Skieasy uses machines with a revolving carpet similar to a runner's treadmill.

Skiers and snowboarders stay in one place while the slope moves underneath them.

"We've given the space a big refurb - stripping out the dated looking interior and generating far more space in the process," the centre's manager, Jamie Wolstenholme told PlanetSKI.

"We've put in a proper viewing area above and have generally removed a lot of the clutter that made the space feel quite claustrophobic."

He said they were trying to put more focus on the customer experience.

They've partnered with Salomon and are using their brand new skis, boots, boards and helmets.

"We're running special offers during the term to fill up the quiet periods and now have quite a number of regular clients that have developed a little community of local skiers," Jamie Wolstenholme said.

"For me, the main draw to getting involved was just watching the speed of progression that is possible in such a small space.

"I have never taught anywhere where you can get pretty much anybody from never having put on skis to comfortably turning in under an hour.

"It's incredibly rewarding as an instructor to have the instant feedback, and the visual element of clients seeing themselves in the mirror makes people really start to think about how they are using their skis rather than just throwing their body around to get themselves down the mountain.
