Monday December 4, 2017 - Email this article to a friend

On Tuesday Russia will hear if it can take part in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics following the Sochi drugs scandal. NEW

The IOC meets in Lausanne, Switzerland, to see what action should be taken after 25 Russian athletes were disqualified retrospectively from the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

It was doping on an industrial scale and some claim it was state-sponsored.

The details were first revealed by a whistle-blower and the McLaren report looked into the allegations.
It is widely expected that Russian winter athletes will be banned from competing under their own flag next February but they may be allowed to compete as neutral athletes.

It has been speculated that President Putin may ban Russian athletes from competing at all and boycott the Games.

Nothing though is certain until the IOC Executive Committee releases its decisions.

The Russian Olympic Committee will address the IOC Executive Board before a final decision is taken.

Four and a half hours has been set aside to discuss the issue before the IOC announces its decision at a press conference at 7.30pm.

Here at PlanetSKI we will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and reporting back later.
