Himalayan resort faces uncertain future

It's been reported that plans for a luxury ski resort in India appear to have been shelved on environmental grounds. Not so.
Here on PlanetSKI we reported the news as it came from a respected news agency. The ski village project envisages a five-star, world-class, 'eco-friendly' resort and was first proposed in 2006.
The latest media reports say the Himalayan Ski Village, had not submitted the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report required by the government and that it is therefore likely the project will be scrapped.
However we have heard directly from the developers, HSV, and it says this is untrue. It says the EIA has been submitted and has met the relevant criteria.
The future is unclear due to political problems.
"The simple problem has been the enormous rivalry between the previous political regime who had approved the project and the now ruling opposition who has opposed nearly every project approved by their rivals, including HSV. Since the company stands on solid ground, both environmentally and otherwise, no cancellation has been attempted," says John Sims, the managing director of HSV.
If it goes ahead the development will be the first fully planned and integrated resort to be built in India since the British colonial powers built their 'hill stations', which remain enormously popular throughout the subcontinent.
It will cover 115 acres of land in the Kullu Valleya and will target the domestic tourists of India, as well as international visitors from the U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
