UNPLUGGED IN ZERMATT
14th April 2018

And so the PlanetSKI visit ends, 3 days of wonderful music and fabulous skiing in our favourite resort. Life really doesn’t get much better.
The Festival is now in its 11th year and describes itself as a ’boutique festival’.
Our editor, James Cove, visited Unplugged in its early days but hasn’t been back for a few years.
81 concerts spread over 5 days and 14 stages with 30,000 concert visits.
His stats were 3 days in the resort, 12 concert visits + almost 10,000 meters of vertical skiing with 34kms covered and 30cm of fresh powder.
This year’s main acts included Koderline, the Kooks, Emile Sande, Norah Jones, Selah Sue, Jake Bugg and the Mighty Oaks.
But there is so much more to this festival than the main acts.
There’s Ronnie Scott’s All Stars palying in a mountain restaurant at 3,300m, Bruno Bieri and Sandro Schneebeli performing their unique brand of alpine music in a 15th centry chapel and The Moonlight Gang in the Cavern.
We suggest you sit back, read the daily blogs at your leisure that James posted over the course of his stay, look at the picturesand videos + watch and listen to the fabulous music in the daily links below.
The Irish indy band Koderline was the headline act but there was so much else besides as Zermatt Unplugged kicked off.
The Kooks stole the snow for us but what back up and supporting acts across the day as it began to dawn on us that this might, just might, be the best music festival in the mountains.
50 of us crammed into the 15th century Winkelmatten church for an evening of alpine music I will never forget.
All in all it is the best music festival in the mountains in our humble opinion.
And so how does James top Zermatt Unplugged as the winter draws to a close?
He’s now in Innsbruck in the Tirol for a few days – a city and ski break.
He is nosing round Innsbruck for a little plan he has for next winter that he may or may not share with us at this stage.
And he’s skiing in Kuhtai for its final weekend and then its round to the glacier resort of Stubai.
See here for his first report:
It ain’t over yet folks – not by a long way!
