It comes as no great surprise after a very warm summer.
“Because of the weather of this summer, 2 Alpes Loisirs (the ski lift company) can’t provide a high qualitative ski product anymore,” said the resort.
There have been two main heatwaves with peak temperatures of 19c at 3,200m in Les2Alpes.
The resort has now reluctantly closed the slopes after opening back at the end of June.
It had planned to remain open to 25th August.
We reported on the summer openings at the time.
The lifts will still be running for hikers and mountain bikers until the end of the month.
Access to 3,400m summit for pedestrians is via the funicular.
The Jandri Express from the town will be open to mountain bikers.
The glacier closed early last summer too and there are serious questions about the future of summer glacier skiing and snowboarding in the French Alps.
See here for our earlier report on Tignes closing at the end of July:
There is glacier skiing on offer in Hintertux in Austria and the glacier above Zermatt can be reached from the Swiss resort and from neighbouring Cervinia in Italy.
And our advice here at PlanetSKI if you fancy summer glacier skiing?
