SWEDISH MOUNTAIN SHRINKS

A peak on Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain is getting smaller and smaller as global warming intensifies.

Just over a year ago it was Sweden’s highest mountain.

But in August 2018 the glacier had melted so much the title went to the non-glacier peak on the same mountain.
Kebnekaise mountain is 100km within the Arctic Circle.
We reported on it at the time last year:
This summer it lost 4m in 29 days.
The glacier peak is now 24 meters lower than fifty years ago.
In the last 20 years it has been melting at an average of 1m each year.

The glacial peak is expected to regain is title over the winter as snow falls and rebuilds the glacier.

However scientists expect the same result in the summers to come.
