HELI SKI TRIP TO GEORGIA
21st December 2019
Last modified on February 10th, 2020
James Orr Heliski is the first British operator to offer heliskiing in the area. Trips start in February 2021 but you’d better get saving. NEW
There are 8 nights and 6 days of heliskiing in one of Europe’s most remote mountain regions, high up in the Caucuses Mountains.
The valley is also home to the ski areas of Hatsvali and Tetnuldi.
They offer good piste and off-piste options and can be used as alternatives to heliskiing in the event of bad weather.
The Mestia region is one of the last truly untapped ski areas of Europe, with peaks reaching over 4,000 metres and the highest at over 5,000m
Forested valleys give way to vast glaciers and seemingly endless mountains offer heliskiers infinite possibilities.
“I’ve been looking at Mestia for a few years now but when a brand new heliski operation started up recently we wanted to be in there quickly,” said James Orr.
“Demand is very high, but we have secured a week during the peak heliskiing season in 2021.
“Right now the region is still developing but because Mestia is so remote, it still retains its unique feel and creates a sense that you are somewhere very special.
“The mountains are similar to the highest parts of the Alps, but with far fewer people – the food is great, the wine is excellent and powder snow is virtually guaranteed”.
