The new gondola can transport up to 3,800 people per hour – an increase of over 70% on the previous lift.
It was built in just 234 days – there’s Austrian efficiency for you.
The new cabins are rather luxurious too.
“Equipped with ergonomically shaped individual wood and leather seats, the twelve-minute journey gives users maximum comfort in the larger than usual cabins,” said a statement from the resort
The cabins consist mainly of glass offering a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.
The middle and top stations have been completely rebuilt.
Schladming is a couple of hours drive from Klagenfurt Airport and there is free transport directly to selected hotels worth over €200 return (or approximately £170).
We have reported on it earlier on PlanetSKI.
PlanetSKI is planning to be in Schladming at the end of January for its legendary night World Cup races.
Look out for our reports on the racing and the resort.
And guess what else has caught our fancy about the lift?
Or rather the old lift.
The ‘old’ six-seater bubble lift was dismantled and has been shipped off to Argentina where it’s being rebuilt in the Las Leñas ski area.
There’s sustainability for you.
