DAVE RYDING 7TH IN MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO

It’s the first top 10 of the season for GB’s leading alpine skier. It should give him confidence with his next race in just four days.

Ryding has traditionally done well in Madonna di Campiglio.

He finished just off the podium in 4th last season and was 6th the previous year.

He was in 13th place after the first run in this night race and looking good for a second run charge.

And that’s what he gave us.

When he crossed the line he was in joint first place.

He finished in joint 7th, alongside the Slovenian, Stefan Hadalin.

The race was won by Daniel Yule of Switzerland.

Henrik Kristoffersen (Norway) was 2nd and Clement Noel (France) third.

Ryding will be hugely relieved to pick up his first top 10 of the season.

He failed to finish in the opening race of the season in Levi, having been in second place after the first run.

He was 17th in Val d’Isere in December and 18th in Zagreb last weekend.

Britain’s number two slalom skier, Laurie Taylor, finished 52nd.

The next World Cup slalom takes place in Adelboden in Switzerland on Sunday.
