OUR FINAL DAY IN UTAH… ONE FOR THE MEMORY.

PlanetSKI ends its week-long trip to Utah. Snow shoeing, cross country skiing, ice castles & a swim in a 10,000 year old thermal crater.

It was going to be hard to beat the day in Sundance:

PlanetSKI heads to Zermatt: the one in Utah not Switzerland

But the next day I gave it my best shot.

It was going to be a day of alternative snow activities.

First up it was a spot of snow shoeing with my friend Max.

And her furry friends.

We walked round the Jordanelle reservoir.

With a picnic lunch.

Snow shoeing is perhaps not to everyone’s taste, but it is mine.

It is good to get away from the lifts, the crowds and the whole commercial side of skiing and just wander around in the snowy mountains. Getting back to nature.

I had a snowshoe as I arrived, and I did it again on my final day in Utah.

Cross country skiing is out of the same draw.

And as enjoyable.

Midway was home to the Nordic events of the 2002 Winter Olympics at Soldier Hollow and is part of the bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics.

It is a centre for cross-county skiing so it seemed natural to give it a go.

I did my final snow report.

It certainly feels like being in America with some typical western architecture.

Then after skiing it was a quick visit to the Ice Castle opposite Zermatt Resort.

And then a highlight of the trip.

A soak in the thermal waters of  The Crater that is over 10,000 years old.

Midway is home to Utah’s only geothermal hot spring.

And what is that light in the water beneath me I hear you ask….

The Crater is more than 20m deep and is a magnet for local scuba divers.

Thank You Zermatt… Thank You Midway… Thank You Utah.

It has been a blast.
