SKIING IN SCOTLAND INTO MAY - Katie Bamber, Senior News Reporter
Tuesday April 3, 2018 - Email this article to a friend

What a week: A spat of spring snow - high winds affect skiing - sun for the weekend. Pack up, get going, it's ski Scotland time... UPDATED

Skiing is expected to go into next month after recent snowfall.

News from theChair of Ski-Scotland, Andy Meldrum, today:

"Right from the start of this season we have had brilliant snow and superb support from our customers.

"We have had some of the best bluebird days I've ever experienced in Scotland with blue skies, sunshine and fresh powder," said the Chair of Ski-Scotland, Andy Meldrum.

The snow is likely to last for longer than the skiers and boarders turn out.

Remember "this is the best time of year to come for a slide in the mountains with a much better chance of good overhead weather," Andy adds.

"It's also a really good time to learn, when the weather is kinder and slopes quieter."

So keep skiing on the mind and always check the Scotland resort conditions and opening times before heading for the slopes.

Once the winds eased yesterday the ski day turned out "nae too bad" in CairnGorm - soft snow and sun until early afternoon.

And today it's more sun and the groomers have been going all night to make Sunday a good one.

Best just take a look at the conditions in Glencoe Mountain Resort:

News from Lecht 2090 this morning:

"Good cover of spring snow on all runs, runs are complete some thining areas but full width between the fences, it's a lovely day for a spring slide, blue sky, sunny and bright with very little wind of 10mph from the north west."

Glenshee has good cover on the runs, and the hard snow is softening (10am Sunday).

There is still considerable avalanche risk on Glas Maol so take care.

Thursday was a clearer day in Glenshee ski resort, Scotland and the afternoon saw true spring conditions.

The news from this morning, however, is that the wind is too much on the Meal Odhar ridge and just the protected, lower runs are open. Check the Facebook page for details.

Cairngorm is closed today due to high winds gusting at 70mph.

And here's a tweet from The Lecht:

"Temperature warming up tomorrow will still feel quite cold. cloudy and overcast but visibility to be good. light to moderate wind of 15mph from the south west. most lifts expected to open tomorrow, good cover of snow on all runs. "

Half a metre of snow has fallen overnight in Glencoe with some pretty substantial drifts.

Visibility is low but it's still snowing...

Snow is falling in Glenshee too and it's not looking to stop any time soon.

The news is the same from Lecht, I think it's safe to say that Scotland has it all at the moment.

Glenshee celebrations:

Easter Sunday was a crisp and clear-sky day for skiing in Scotland.

Cairngorm saw 2,500 skiers on the hill on Sunday with some beautiful slope conditions.

And on Easter Monday the snow started falling.

Even better, it is looking to snow for the next two days.
