THE LEGEND LIVES THROUGH SUMMER
Tuesday June 5, 2018 - Email this article to a friend

Kitzbühel has a zest for sport. World famous for its downhill ski race course, the energy extends through summer, too. NEW

The Wilder Kaiser, the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Hahnenkamm characterise Kitzbühel and the vast surrounding landscape.

The mountain scenery and Tirolean countryside is famous for its beauty and not something to be forgotten when planning a holiday this summer.

There's also local folklore and tradition to discover there, whatever the season.

It's both activity-central and a place for relaxation.

Trail up the mountains or just take it all in and breathe.

Bike through the meadows or take a picnic in the peaceful setting.

Swim or paddle the lakes, or meander around them at your own pace.

On foot

Nestled between the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbüheler Horn you'll find more than 1,000km of signposted hiking trails to walk.

PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, was in Kitzbuhel a few summers back and hiked the Hahnenkamm:

Travel through meadows and along gravel paths, through forests and over footbridges, high up on the mountain tops or down in the valley.

It's all so easy to discover; There are many trails for different levels of hiker and user-friendly sign posts guide you through the region.

Choose your preferred distance, level and altitude using the 'adventure portal' and set off into the countryside.
Walkers, don't forget to stop off at mountain huts along your way to refuel and recharge...

And not forgetting runners and Nordic walkers, who can make their own Kitzbühel adventure from a network of 23 routes covering over 170km.

On wheels

Conquer the gentler hills of Kitzbühel on two wheels, whether that's by road bike, mountain bike, or E-bike.

From high up in the mountains to idyllic pathways, along the edge of lakes and the banks of streams, the network of trails leads you to the most picturesque places Kitzbühel has to offer.

Experience Kitzbühel. Kitzbühel offers a choice of well-established road bike tours, with 1,200 km of routes that incorporate 18,000 metres in altitude difference.

Experienced road bikers should tackle the "crowning stage" of the Tour of Austria - an ascent to the Kitzbüheler Horn.

Approximately 21km, a 950-metre climb in altitude of and a slope gradient of more than 22%, Austria's steepest cycle challenge is something to conquer.

Mountain bikers have a trail network of over 800km - A mix of forest and alpine trails to kick up scaling 600m in altitude, with gradients of up to 30%.

The Kitzbühel Downhill is a good end-of-holiday challenge to work towards, if you enjoy that kind of thing during a break...

Kitzbühel is very popular among golfers with four courses to play against an Alpine vista - a pretty special backdrop...

The Kitzbühel Golfcard allows you to play at any of these impressive courses; It could be the 18-hole courses at Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith Golf Club or Eichenheim Golf Club, the 9-hole courses at Kitzbühel Golf Club or at Golf and Country Club Rasmushof.

The Kitzbühel Golf School and Golf Academies offer courses for both newcomers and seasoned golfers alike.

Get that swing perfected!

Why not kick off at the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith Golf Club for a round, which won Austria's best golf course in 2016

The Kitzbühel Golf Circuit is the "crème de la crème" of Alpine golf, so a must for all discerning players.

Around we go.

Pleasure and leisure

Kitzbühel has an urban vibe about it, though a gorgeous rural town.

It's close to Innsbruck and is undoubtably a fashionable spot, both summer and winter.

The restaurants range from Toque award-winning restaurants to traditional and rustic Tyrolean taverns.

The historic Old Town is packed with boutique shops and favourite brands and of course, being the glamorous destination it is, offers great spa and wellness treats.

Sport and culture are at the centre of life here.

From the football enthusiasts at the 20th International Cordial Cup, the International sporting elite competing in the 22nd KitzAlpBike Mountainbike Festival, the 15th Kitzbühel Golf Festival, or the stars of the international tennis scene at the 73rd Kitzbühel Generali Open Kitzbühel offers many a spectacle.

Then there are great entertainers who've come to Kitzbühel to perform, such as Elina Garanca at Classics in the Alps, or Andrew Gabalier performing at the 5th Kitzbühel Music Festival.

The annual events that never disappoint are the Kitzbühel Alpine Rallye, the Street Food Market and the Annual Fair of Kitzbühel Town.
