If there's a year to enjoy the snow all the way through, then this is it. PlanetSKI reports on current summer glacier skiing in Europe. UPDATED

Guess who was out in Kaprun, Austria and up on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier on the weekend?

Eddie the Eagle!

In town for a triathlon challenge, he did some skiing up top. Check it out:

Perhaps Europe's most well known glacier for skiing and training in summer, La Grande Motte inTignes, is enjoying its summer ski sesh:

The Croatian ski team (yeah they do!) have been in Zermatt on the snow, under the sun:

Les 2 Alpes hosted a different kind of snow event earlier this month.

It's called the Mountain of Hell and it's extreme mountain biking from the top of the glacier down to the valley. Check it out:

Fonna Glacier Resort in Hardanger, Norway is open every day for skiing.

Though the snow melts quickly through the day, skiing in the morning and the resort is telling people to come and get their piece!

Or there's Tystigen Glacier in Stryn also in Norway.

How about a glacier summer walk to experience the intense blue of the ice and living formations in the glacier up close?

Apart from sun, glacier snow and tip top views, there's not much else to say there...

Except, well, fancy a trip?

Let's take a little look at what it would cost to get your skiing on a glacier this weekend.

Let's go Tignes. (And remember folks, it's school summer holidays - an ultimate treat for your kids this weekend?!)

Round trip flights from London Luton to Geneva will cost you £116 - leaving Friday 20th returning Monday 23rd with easyJet.

Now the transfer to resort, as per usual, comes out quite 'spenny.

Renting a car at Geneva is looking around £60 a day with Sixt.

Accommodation at STUDIO 4personnes VAL CLARET over these dates is a mere £117.

And lastly a ski pass.

Tignes is selling summer lift tickets for a decent €25 for adults or €20 for children per day.

It's not small, but certainly a great summer novelty to ski in July.

Let us know if you make it...

We have just heard from our good friends over at the Warren Smith Ski Academy.

The Academy is currently running courses up on the glacier above Cervinia.

Check out the video:

There is earlier news from Warren and links to information about the courses lower down this article - so scroll down!

And what's it been like over in Tignes high up in the French Alps.

Temperatures are hot over much of Europe but at 3,000m things are distinctly cooler.

Hundreds are out on the Grand Motte glacier this week, in the park and in the gates.

And here's a video from the slopes:

The Hintertux glacier in the Tirol in Austria is open throughout the summer and here is what it currently looks like:

One of the other top alpine glaciers is the one shared by Zermatt in Switzerland and Cervinia in Italy.

Our latest news of conditions up on the glacier shared by the resorts comes from our good friends over at the Warren Smith Ski Academy.

The company has been holding its first summer course up on the glacier in Zermatt from its summer base in the neighbouring Italian resort of Cervinia.

Looking good.

Looking VERY good:

"We've just come to the end of the first week of our Summer 5-day courses here in Cervinia and Zermatt and what a brilliant start it has been," said Warren.

"We have been so excited on the lead up to this summer due to last winter's incredible snow records. So it came as no surprise to find the conditions on the Plateau Rosa to be out of this world."

"Our course members and Gap Year students were treated to perfect piste conditions that covered not only the usual pitches on the Swiss side of the mountain but amazingly the huge Ventina piste that stretches halfway down the Italian side towards the resort below."

And check out a video report from the Academy's first week out on the summer snow:

We will be having further information and pictures from Warren and his team shorlty, so do check back later.

So, what about elsewhere in the Alps at the moment?

There were great quantities of snow last winter, no less than 8.5m in Tignes, that is enabling the French resort to offer some pretty ideal conditions for glacier skiing from 23rd June to 5th August.

Ride the Perce-Neige funicular up to 3,032m in altitude for 20 km of runs to ski under the sun.

The skiing is from 7am to 1pm before the sun warms up the snow too much.

Summertime and glacier skiing might be the perfect time to work on your technique and keep in good ski shape before the next season.

Another ski company, Snoworks, thinks so and runs courses throughout the summer to help skiers wanting to work on technical skills.

"We begun our summer skiing and training in early June on the Bellevarde in Val D'Isere," said Snoworks founder, Phil Smith.

"An historic moment as there was too much snow to open the Glacier du Pisaillas. The Glacier du Pisaillas opened up mid June and conditions have remained exceptional," Phil added.

Here at PlanetSKI we reported on the summer opening in Val d'Isere:

" On July 23rd we swapped over to the Glacier De La Grande Motte in Tignes experiencing exceptional conditions with more snow on the glacier than in recent memory.

"We'll be running Race Camps for both Adults and Juniors, Technical courses in preparation for the winter along with Eurotest and Test Technique for instructors."

With less wind and snow,  you can concentrate on the tech side of things and prepare for the winter.

If this sounds like something you need, read on here for details of what Snoworks offers.

It's not just about the adrenaline sports.

Pedestrians can take the funicular for the incredible views on the sunny terrace of Le Panoramic.

€25 a day to ski and €10 round-trip for non-skiers (€5 for children)and it's open 'til end of August for pedestrians.

We were there high on La Grande Motte Glacier before it all kicked off and excited about the coming summer session:

Another of France's glacier resorts, Les 2 Alpes, is open for business.

But something a little different took place last weekend.

The Mountain of Hell event.

Does that sound ominous or appealing to you?

It was the 19th edition of the 25-kilometre mountain bike race that starts at 3,200m on the glacier.

Here at PlanetSKI we were at the event back in 2013:

And one of our readers, Alex Chapman, from TipTop Ski Coaching has been out on the glacier.

"The opening day was like winter, snowing cold with little visibility! but since then the nights have been mostly clear and given us good refreezes and perfect snow conditions. The piste are open up on the glacier and the signal is also open with plenty of snow on it for the moment," said Alex.

"There is a new system with private lanes available for high level athletes taking up some of the skiers left of main T-bar but the right and far left are still available for free skiing as is the signal, which is wide with fantastic snow conditions at the moment! The Lauze is also open with some free skiing space as is the park," Alex added.

Meanwhile over in Austria at the Tirol's Stubai Glacier conditions are looking sweet.

Thought about hiking up?

The glaciers ultra trails are a big draw and many have been out at it.

And the Warren Smith Ski Academy began its summer courses in Cervinia in Italy at the weekend.

The resort is opening the Italian side of the mountain for at least the first part of the summer season.

"It is years since they were last able to do this so it's more proof that the conditions up there are going to be incredible. If you have ever thought about going summerskiing then, trust us, this is the year to do it! " said Warren.

"We are go! The Summer 2018 courses in Cervinia have officially begun and what a way to start! Blue skis and perfect snow!.Happy days indeed," added Warren.
