The cables on a chairlift & other lifts in Pal-Arinsal were cut with an electric saw. Police are investigating as speculation mounts on the motive. UPDATED

Employees were carrying out routine maintenance on the lifts when they discovered a damaged cable.

They then carried out a full inspection of all the lifts and found a severed cable on a chairlift and damaged cables on other lifts.

The saboteurs would have had to climb a pylon with a large electric radial saw to cut the cables on the chairlift.

"We were victims of sabotage, we were attacked," said the director of the ski resort, Josep Marticella.

He assured people that the resort would open as planned on December 1st after repairs have been made.

Images of the cut cables have been posted on the social media page of Meteo Pyrenees.

"A sabotage has been found on some of the cable lifts of Pal in Vallnord. There is no need to clarify the possible consequences of such an act and investigations are under way," said Meteo Pyrenees.

The police are now investigating and the authorities have said it was "intentional sabotage".

There is no official indication as to the motive but some speculation is taking place on social media.

There has also been strong reaction on the PlanetSKI Facebook page.

Some claim the culprits, if found, should be charged with attempted muder.

The incident follows news from the other side of Andorra that the Grandvalira will remain after the two main resorts reached agreement on how to split revenue.
