SNOWBALL BAN ENDED BY 9-YEAR OLD - James Cove, PlanetSKI Editor

In Severance in Colorado throwing a snowball was illegal. Not any more after a child changed the law.

Picking up some snow, pressing into a ball and then throwing it was covered by blanket legislation.

A law in the town states that "It is unlawful for any person to throw or shoot any stone or any other missile upon or at any person, animal, building, tree or other public or private property; or at or against any vehicle or equipment design for the transportation of persons or property."

This law covered throwing a snowball, though it was not enforced.

9-year old Dane Best objected to the law and presented his case to the Town Council this week for the overall ban to be reversed.

He collected supporters and did research into the dangers posed by throwing a snowball, weighed against the fun to be had.

"It is an outdated law and I want to throw a snowball without getting in trouble," he told councillors.

The council listened with interest to his arguments and unanimously approved a measure to legalise throwing snowballs within town limits.

After winning his argument, Dane was given the town's first legal snowball to throw in celebration.

"We are proud of him for taking initiative to make some change, no matter how small it may be," said his father Derrick Best, to local media.
