Going down a storm.

A new British ski manufacturer starts up and they're pretty good skis. Welcome to Storm Skis.

It's been a long time since a British ski manufacturer has come along to take on the competition.  Of course a few British enthusiasts have made a small number of skis, but Storm is mass producing a range of skis aimed at the freeride market.

The skis are made in the Czech Republic and the company has been set up by ski instructor and freeskier Andy David.  "We are passionate about our skiing, especially off piste, but found the mass produced products didn't quite do it for us so we decided to start making our own," Andy tells us over a beer in a bar in Verbier. "So far the feedback we have received has been good."

strike_400Here at PlanetSKi we are going to give the range a full test in the New Year and we'll let you know what we think but people we've spoken to who have used them seem to back up Andy's view.

They all have a solid wood core, made from beech and polar, with an extra thick side wall and edge for durabulity and response.

7 skis are in production at the moment; Inferno, Blaze, Aurrora, Rage, Strike, Devastator Pro and the Storm Force Pro.

The Inferno and Blaze are on piste skis and at the other end of the spectrum is the Storm Force Pro - a seriously mean, fat off piste ski designed for deep powder.

In between are all-mountain skis and ones for the park and pipe.

It's good to see a British ski manufacturer in business and we wish them luck.

Andy has also just chosen his 6 favourite steep and deep resorts for our resort guide so do take a look.
