SNOWORKS IN SPRING
Tuesday March 12, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

We think it's the best time of the year to ski so why not take advantage of the snow that's back in the Alps this week and get yourself on a course?

Snoworks have been running ski courses for around 30 years.

They claim to have the most comprehensive programme of courses anywhere in the world.

And they have a unique philosophy - passed on by passionate coaches - which could transform your approach to skiing wherever you are on the mountain.

We've experienced the Snoworks philosophy at PlanetSKI, most recently on an off piste course in December 2018.

There are courses for everyone from intermediates up to experts.

And there are a lot coming up this Spring.

There's availability on all the remaining ones in March, right through to the final blast of the winter in Hintertux, Austria, in May.

Many of the courses are in France where Snoworks have their alpine base and where the snow looks set to be good in the immediate future.

"Conditions in Tignes and the Three Valleys are great right now, half a metre of snow forecast tomorrow and Thursday in Tignes," the Director and co-founder of Snoworks, Phil Smith, told us on Tuesday 12th March.

One of the courses that caught our eye is Junior Race in the high-altitude resort of Tignes - a good bet for snowsure late-season skiing.

These race courses take place around the school Easter holidays and are open to all children aged 9 to 16.

The one that starts on 8th April in Tignes is during the GB Children's Alpine Championships.

"Great fun for the kids at Easter if they want something more than ski school, and the parents can join one of the half days courses alongside them," Phil Smith said.

"We have some juniors who want to learn high-speed carving booked on these courses alongside some of the racers who will be training with us for the British Championships."

And then there's Iceland...

It's a new destination for Snoworks this season and you'll have to be fit to go on it.

It involves 6 full days of ski touring.

If you're a lower level intermediate skier, the all terrain course in Meribel-Mottaret on 25th March is one that comes recommended.

For the more experienced, why not try one of the backcountry or touring trips?

Here's everything that's on the Snoworks agenda - and maybe yours? - for the remainder of the season:

25 March

  • Tignes, France - Backcountry (off piste all day)
  • Meribel-Mottaret, France - All-Terrain and Off-Piste (half days). There are some good package prices available for the course, travel & accommodation with Snoworks' partner operator Mark Warner

31 March

  • Norway - Backcountry adventure.  Ski touring for 6 full days with a guide and Snoworks instructor
