Another fatal ski collision

A woman has died and the German politician, Dieter Althaus is in a coma after they collided on a ski slope in Austria.

The accident happened in the Riesneralm ski area in Upper Styria on New Year’s Day.

The un-named woman died on her way to hospital while Althaus, 50, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Schwarzach, near Salzburg.

The woman, who is 41, is Slovakian and lives in the US.  She was not wearing a helmet but Althaus was.

He is said to be out of danger and in a serious but stable condition.

The accident once again highlights the area of collisions on the slope and people skiing or snowboarding out of control.
