The leading French freestyle skier, Kevin Rolland, who suffered serious injuries in a horrific fall last week, becomes a dad.

The 29-year-old Olympic bronze medallist from La Plagne broke the news to his followers on social media.

"Je suis papa ❤️❤️❤️," he tweeted from his hospital bed.

Rolland is recovering in Grenoble hospital after a hard fall while attempting a world record jump in the quarterpipe at his home resort on Tuesday last week.

The former World Champion and five-times X Games gold medallist was taken to hospital in a critical condition but is now stable and improving.

He suffered some damage to internal organs and underwent surgery on a fractured pelvis.

Rolland's partner Roma Perrier confirmed she had given birth just after 7.30am on Thursday 9th May to the couple's son, Rio Rolland.

"Yesterday daddy told me I can come out now and 4 hours later I decided it was time 🙂," she said on Facebook.

She published before and after photos on her Facebook page.
