MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN CLOSES FOR WINTER 18/19 - Katie Bamber, Senior News Reporter
Monday July 29, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

The US resort enjoyed a 260-day season, finally calling it a day last weekend. It leaves just 100 days until the start of next season.

This California resort has had a mammoth season.

29th July was the final day of skiing and riding at Mammoth Mountain.

There's been 18.2 metres of snow, with the season lasting an incredible 260 days.

Last month there was hope for the resort to ski into August, but warm weather and rapid snowmelt means that the bikers now get to have their turn solo on the terrain.

For a short while, anyway...

California and the Sierras had it very good in February.

The month snow total was 5.7 metres.

February 4th saw over 1m of snow come down in 36 hours and between 2nd - 5th February 2.3m came down.

Powder days last all winter long, though, balanced out by a long spring of sunny summer skiing.
