NEW ZEALAND KICKS OFF SNOWBOARD COMPETITION SEASON

It all starts later this month and the countdown is underway. International snowboarding competitions in the Winter Games NZ.





Cardrona on the south island will be hosting the FIS Snowboard World Cup Big Air in Snowboard Halfpipe and Slopestyle.

The competitions will see some of the world's best Big Air snowboarders come together.

The Big Air will see athletes fly through the air doing tricks marked on ingenuity, execution and air time. 

The halfpipe competition will see snowboarders doing big and acrobatic aerial tricks.

In the FIS ANC (Australia and New Zealand Cup) Slopestyle competition, athletes will perform on boxes, rails, jumps and jibs.

26 events will be held across six venues - Friday 23rd to September 7th.

It's the first step for the World Cup invitations for the upcoming Northern Hemisphere season.

There are expected to be nearly 30 different venues in 13 countries on four continents hosting 2019/20 FIS Snowboard World Cup competitions.

The Winter Games NZ at Cardrona will also include the disciplines of Cross-Country Skiing, Alpine Skiing and Freeski.

The Queenstown resort of Coronet Peak will have the opening ceremony, the alpine slalom, super-G and night parallel slalom.

This year celebrates 10 years of the elite international winter sports event.

SKY Sport will be the official broadcast partner of the Winter Games NZ.

It's the start of the lead up to the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The focus will be on live broadcasts of the major ice and snow sports events, as well as highlight shows of the events.

Tune in to the first event on Friday 23rd August with a Parallel Slalom under lights at Coronet Peak in Queenstown.

The Winter Games NZ will show on the SKY Sport News channel.
