PLANE CRASHES INTO CHAIRLIFT
Thursday October 10, 2019 - Email this article to a friend

A small plane with two people on board hit the cables of a ski lift in the Italian Alps. PlanetSKI reports.

The incident took place in the resort of Prato Valentino in Teglio to the north of Milan.

The aircraft took off from a nearby airfield and then seemed to lose power according to eyewitnesses.

The 62-year old pilot was thrown clear and a 55-year old passenger was rescued in a two-hour operation.

"They were both very lucky, really. If the plane had crashed into the ground, the ending could have been very different," said a spokesman from the rescue authorities, Walter Milan.

"It was a complicated rescue operation involving many services, but ultimately it was successful, which was the main thing."

Neither was seriously injured but are said to be in a state of shock.

An investigation is underway.
