Stooges guitarist dies
Tuesday January 6, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

It's not much to do with skiing but we have seen Iggy and the Stooges in Crans Montana and we are fans.

Punk guitarist Ron Asheton of The Stooges has been found dead in his home in America. He was 60.

There were no signs of foul play, and the death appeared to be of natural causes.

Asheton was an original member of The Stooges, the hugely influential band founded in 1967.

Asheton's brother, Scott, was the band's drummer.

Here at PlanetSKI we put him in our top 10.

We are huge fans of the The Stooges and rate them as one of the best bands of all time.

Their Album 1969 we reckon is one of the best and certainly one of the most influential as they were the pre-cursor to punk that changed the face of music.

Many bands put The Stooges as one of their greatest influences.

The Stoooges performed in the sedate ski resort of Crans Montana in 2007 and blew the place apart.

We were there to witness it and the photo above was taken on that night.

We also saw them in 'Get Loaded in the Park' on Clapham Common last summer with a bunch of our skiing mates and they were just as good.

It's a sad, sad day.
