An unidentified snowboarder set off the slide that killed a woman in Snowbird

27-year old Heather Gross was caught in the slide last month on the High Baldy Traverse in the resort in Utah.

The area had been bombed by the ski patrol and declared safe. Around 300 people had skied in that area before the slide occured, according to the Utah Avalanche Centre.

The accident happened at 12.24. The initial release was one foot deep and 35 feet wide. The avalanche ran 1,000' vertically, with tongues that were up to 10-feet deep and reached a maximum width of 120 feet.

Rescuers found her body about an hour later under three feet of snow. She was not wearing a transceiver or Recco device.

Despite appeals and intense investigations the person who set off the avalanche has not been found.
