EU grant to build a ski slope
Monday November 10, 2008 - Email this article to a friend

A Danishman has been given £79,000 to build a ski slope on a small island in the Baltic where snow rarely falls.

Ole Harild applied for a European Union grant as a bit of a joke since he could not go skiing abroad.

He thought of building his own small slope and installing a snow cannon and no-one was more surprised than him when the grant was awarded.

With the money he built an 80m slope, bought 80 pairs of skis and a snow machine.

Unfortunately the weather was too warm for much of last winter and the run was only open for 1 day.
