Ski mountaineering races for Scotland
Monday August 6, 2012 - Email this article to a friend

Ski mountaineering races are to be held in the UK for the first time. The growing sport requires skiing and mountaineering skills.

Four races will be held in Scotland next winter.

The first will be at The Lecht on December 29th.

Other races are scheduled for January 19th at Glenshee,  February 23rd at Glencoe and then March 23rd  at The Nevis Range.

The sport is established in the Alps and North America, but organisation Skimo Scotland said it has not spread to the UK.

We reported on perhaps the most adventurous of the ski mountaineering races - The Afghan Ski Challenege.

The races will last around 1 hour as the athletes climb uphill on skis and then ski down.

For the spirit of the mountains
