The Austrian resort has Leona Lewis performing and more snow than you can shake a stick at.

Preparations are well under way for the resort's opening.  The resort is renowned for its concerts to open and close the winter season and this year the X Factor winner, Leona Lewis is topping the bill.

She'll be singing along with, Gabriella Cilmi, at an open air concert in the town centre this Saturday.

stage_ischgl_40080 people are currently building the set.  The stage alone weights 80 tons with the sound and lighting equipment a further 30 tons, so it promises to be a spectacular occassion.

20,000 people are expected, maybe even more given the great snow conditions.

"We are all very excited about the high octane opening weekend," the Tourism Director, Andreas Steibl told planetSKI today. "They will set the scene for what looks like being an epic winter".

isch_nov_400There's already deep snow on the pistes and we'll have a reporter from planetSKI at the concert with a special VIP pass so expect all the back stage news with pictures and video too.

The resort has attracted a host of big name stars including Elton John, Rod Stewart, The Scissor Sisters, Lionel Richie and many others.

Entrance to the concert is free with a valid lift pass.  A one day lift pass is €55 (£44.16) and a 2 day weekend ticket is €74.50 (£59.83).

So get a flight from BA or Swiss to Zurich, catch a train to Landeck and then a local bus up to the resort. Alternatively you can hire a car at the airport.

See you there!
