Ski home of US President up for sale - James Cove, Beaver Creek
Saturday January 25, 2014 - Email this article to a friend

President Gerald Ford retired to the ski resort of Beaver Creek in Colorado. If you have a spare $9.9m the house is yours. PlanetSKI has had a tour of the property.

It is set in an exclusive private area of the resort with ski-in and ski-out convenience.

It comes with 7 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, various receptions rooms, a laundry room, a private cinema, a lift and a swimming pool.

The balcony has heated tiles, as do the footpaths in the garden.

There is even the Presidential Seal embedded into the floor of the entrance hall, though this was added after he died by the people that renovated the property after he passed away in 2006.

VIP guests that stayed and enjoyed hospitality in the house include Henry Kissinger, Margaret Thatcher and Bill Clinton.

Then there is a pool room in the quarters of the secret service officers that lived at the home to protect him.

President Ford, the 38th US President, was a keen skier and his favourite jacket adorns the wall, along with a pair of K2 skis that belonged to him.

On my tour of the property it seemed silly not to shoot a few balls.

President Ford bought the property in the 1980s and split his time between a home in California and the one in Beaver Creek.

He first skied in the Rockies in 1968 and later helped bring two World Skiing Championships to Colorado.

In 1982 he established the Ford Cup in Vail, which is now called the American Ski Classic.

So, how come I got an invite for a tour?

Lets just say the real estate agent is a good fried of mine and he had to pop in to collect the keys and invited me along.

If you want to find out more details on the residence then see Ascent Sotheby's International Realty.

You may even be able to negotiate for the pool table to be included.
