End of season in the Hautes-Pyrenees
Sunday April 20, 2014 - Email this article to a friend

There have been huge amounts of snow, glorious blue skies and several resorts to ski in. Where better for PlanetSKI to celebrate the season of 2013/14 as it draws to a close?

The "other" ski area of France has had another good season.

There has been regular snow across the winter and there is still over 2 meters in places.

The main ski areas closed on Easter Monday, but the Pic du Midi cable car in La Mongie will take skiers and snowboarders to its huge free-ride area until May 11th.

The resort of Cauterets claims over 3m at the top and this is what it looked like last weekend as our content editor, James Cove, skied there with his 14-year old son, Max.

"The snow was pretty heavy by mid-morning but there were still plenty of runs open and we didn't come across a single bare patch on the slopes that were open at the top of the resort," said James.

"The sun was out, the slopes crowded and it was a great, great end to the season here," he added.

Father and son have spent the past few days in La Mongie, Bareges and Cauterets.

Here is the latest PlanetSKI video snow report that comes from the Hautes-Pyrenees and shows what the three resorts offer.

It was recorded and posted on Easter Sunday.

The will be a full report on their overnight experience at the Pic Du Midi observatory that will be posted on PlanetSKI later this week.

And we will be asking why more British people don't ski in the resorts of La Mongie and Bareges.

We reckon they should!

Here are some images taken in the past few days in the "other" French mountain range; the Hautes-Pyrenees. Cool
