It's still snowing across the Alps
Monday December 1, 2008 - Email this article to a friend

There's been further snowfall across the Alps making it the best start to the season in years. However it's been marred by the first avalanche death.

Heavy snow is continuing to fall across the Alps as many resorts opened last weekend.

As you will see from our related story about Leona Lewis PlanetSKI is in the Austrian resort of Ischgl at the moment where it has been snowing pretty much continually for the last few days.

Below is a short film about conditions.

It was powder conditions off piste with knee deep snow on Monday.  The video below will show you a few images of the skiing and snowboarding.

SNOW ACROSS THE ALPS

isch_skis_400In France Alpe d'Huez and Val d'Isere were among several resorts that opened at the weekend to exceptional conditions.

Many of the Italian resorts were hit by a major snowfall over the weekend so they too have great conditions. It's the best snow at this time of year in Italy for decades.

The Pyrenees has also received significant snowfall and all the resorts are open.

However the first avalanche death has sadly occured in the Swiss resort of Les Diablerets when a snowboarder was caught in a 60m slide while off piste with a friend.

Skiers and snowboarders are asked to exercise caution, especially as the storm was accompanied by high winds which have built up large amounts of snow in some places.

APRES KICKS OFF TOO

On a happier note the Apres ski season has started too!  It's not just the slopes that are welcoming skiers and snowboarders.

So are the bars.

There are a few photos of the action on this related story.

Dancing on tables is in full swing and it's only the beginning of December.
