Avalanche App
Sunday March 6, 2016 - Email this article to a friend

Meteo France has launched a new App that warns of avalanches. Like all such devices it has its uses and its limitations. NEW

The Meteo Slo App collates information from more ski patollers in the French Alps and Pyrenees and gives the avalanche risk.

The risk is graded on a scale of 1 - 5.

It also has detailed information on snow quality and depth.

The App is free to download.

It is currently only available in French but an English version is being considered.

It has been welcomed as a new way to get off piste safety information.

However the information is only as good as the person using it.

People are urged to develop their snowcraft skills and backcountry knowledge, along with rescue techniques, rather than rely on an App to tell them if avalanches will happen or not.
