Spring skiing in Scotland
Thursday April 14, 2016 - Email this article to a friend

2 out of Scotland's 5 ski areas remain open with some good as fresh snow falls. There were also a series of events on last weekend as the season ends. UPDATED

Glencoe Mountain staff report that they still have upper, mid and key lower slopes open.

The resort was also hosting the Junior Coe Cup at the weekend.

Conditions look good for mid-April.

"Fresh powder on top of firm pistes, with the White Lady in superb condition narrow into last third. Top bowls have around 2 meters snow depth with Cas and 105 around 1.5 metres depth Forecast for today is bright sunny start with snow showers developing mid morning. Great top to mid mountain snowsports available," said the resort on Sunday morning.

Weekend events are taking place at the top station: Atomic ski demos on Friday and Saturday 09.30 - 3pm and the Ptarmigan Freestyle Jam from 11am on Saturday.

Here is the Atomic test team out on the slopes.

There is skiing and snowboarding from the top down to the middle of the mountain, and six lifts are scheduled to operate including the funicular.

Nevis Range also offered competent skiers and snowboarders the chance to enjoy the upper mountain and back country for one last time this winter.

"Come and join us for the last weekend this season. You can ski from the summit to Goose Drive. The best skiing is on the Goose - today thsi snow is soft on a firm base with some drifting and scoured areas. The Summit Terrain park is snowed in and being worked on. There is uplift and download available on the quad chair," said a statment from Nevis Range on Saturday morning.

The weather on Saturday at the gondola top station was sunny and clear with light winds and -2C.

However the wind picked up on Sunday and the lifts were unable to run.

"Sadly the high WSW winds mean the ski lifts cannot operate today," said the resort on Sunday.

After this weekend, the resort will close for snowsports for the season.

Glencoe and CairnGorm Mountains will remain open for snowsports, with both now offering special reduced-price midweek tickets.

All three resorts report not only good Spring skiing but also a typical Scottish Spring phenomenon - a distinct lack of customers!

"It's always the same at this time of year. We can offer great sliding, particularly on the upper mountains, but down in the valleys and in the cities, people see daffodils and cherry blossom and believe the ski season is over, but believe me it's not. So check the conditions, forget about cutting the grass and come skiing and boarding - the season's far from over yet," said Chair of Ski-Scotland Heather Negus.

And there has been some snow across other parts of Scotland on Saturday.
