Start the season off with a serious bang at Polaris Festival in Verbier. It's back - bigger and better. NEW

Can you manage one more holiday in 2016 or do you want to get to the slopes at the start of the 2016/17 season?

What about when it's about seriously good music and includes a trip up a mountain?

Polaris Festival in the Swiss Alps is back again after its successful launch last winter.

With big names from the world of minimal electro and techno, it has been voted among the top 10 winter festivals.

And this year, for a festival in only its second year, it boasts an impressive lineup:

Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Dixon, Moodymann, Lil Louis to name just a few.

So 9th,10th & 11th December is the time and Verbier is the place.

"It is one of the only winter sports festivals that's actually on the snow and up the mountain," said BBC Ski Sunday's Ed Leigh about Polaris.

The main stage is over 2,000m on the slope Le Mouton Noir.

At 10pm the festival moves down from the mountain and spreads throughout the town for the night until the early morning, with DJs playing in Verbier's clubs and bars.

Last year saw 5,000 people attending.

Take a look at last year's high altitude festival:

Music broadcasting platform Boiler Room, big in city music scenes, is also involved, adding standing to the event.

"Lots of people like music but don't like to ski," one of the organisers and spokesperson for the festival, DJ Mr Mike, said.

"It's a chance for [electro/techno] music people to travel to an impressive setting with amazing views to enjoy the DJs," Mr Mike went on.

And the mountains aren't just for skiers, especially when the main stage is featured up high for what must be some of the most impressive sets there are.

An equally spectacular contrast to those beach-side in Ibiza.

Pierre-André Gremaud says the festival is going from strength to strength.

"Last year all the hotels in town were full. This year an extra day has been added to the festival. It attracts a young party crowd to the resort and they are there to let their hair down and have a good time."

"Verbier is the ideal location for such an event," Pierre-André added.

And here's a teaser of what's to come this year at Polaris:

With popular electronic Modernity events in Crans Montana and Gstaad this past year, it seems that the place to hear this music is in the Swiss Alps.

Renowned DJs Luciano and Mirko Loko, 'the godfathers' of Polaris, are from Lausanne and so in 2015 Verbier became the host.

Less inclusively organised but more a chance to party hard on the mountain in your own way, it is a weekend that offers a lot of music in a beautiful setting.

And going on the lineup it really is a step above many other classic winter festivals.

Verbier has more on this winter, when it comes to music festivals.

Impulse is another to take place in Verbier later on in the season in April.

"It's not as raucous as Polaris," says skiing sports presenter Ed Leigh, but it is another example of what Verbier has on offer during the 2016/17 season.
