The 23rd edition of the inter resort moguls competition takes place in Verbier next week. It's one of THE best events in the Alps!

Europe's biggest inter-resort mogul competition sees teams of seasonaires and locals from Verbier, Chamonix, Avoriaz and Zermatt battle it out.

Each team has nine skiers, two telemarkers, a snowboarder and a mono-skier.

It all takes place next Wednesday, March 15th.

Here's a taster from last year's event.

They must navigate a steep section of snowy bumps ('bosses' in French) scoring points for speed, style and jumps.

Prizes are awarded for the best team, best run, best jump, best wipeout and, in keeping with the carnival atmosphere, best costume.

Founder, Tom Banfield, organised the first Boss des Bosses in Chamonix back in 1990.

The resort of Chamonix ended its support in 2010 after it all got a bit out of hand at the après ski and Chamonix was also trying to lose its 'ski-bum' image and go upmarket - see here for a PlanetSKI report from the  time.

It was resurrected in Verbier last season and deemed a huge success - so it's back.

The first event happened after a friend of Tom's from Val d'Isère decided to settle their dispute over which resort had the best skiers.

Chamonix went on to win the inaugural event, however Val d'Isère got their revenge the following year.

Verbier competed for the first time in 1993, starting a run of four straight wins.

Since then, Zermatt has won the event a total of nine times and, off the back of last year's victory, the Swiss resort is the team to beat.

This year's event will feature French National Champion, Ben Cavet, representing Avoriaz.

Last month, Ben finished runner-up at the FIS Mogul World Cup in Deer Valley, USA.

And here's Ben in action:

Each team also brings coach loads of supporters so expect more than a bit of competition in the après ski stakes too.

PlanetSKI hopes to be in resort for the event and will be reporting back.

If you are in the resort at the time the organisers are looking for a few volunteers to help out - in return you get a free limited-edition T-shirt, other perks and a great experience so check out its Facebook page for details.

This year's major sponsors include Mountain Air, Faction Skis, Verbier Tourism, Téléverbier, Le Rouge Restaurant & Club and Winslow Breweries.
