Take your skiing beyond resort boundaries with a Ski Club of GB Mountain Tracks skills course for first-time ski tourers. NEW

It can be an intimidating move, transitioning from the lift assisted skiing we are used to, to self-powered ski ascents.

But in recent seasons, ski touring popularity has soared.

A binding that releases at the heel can seem daunting but embracing this discipline will be a freeing experience.

And what classroom beats the glaciated, high-altitude terrain of the Alps?

None, is the answer.

The curriculum includes:
  • route planning
  • navigation
  • skinning skills
  • glacier travel
  • crevasse rescue
  • transceiver training
  • recognising avalanche terrain & avoiding avalanches
  • emergency procedures
  • using crampons and an ice-axe
The Mountain Tracks courses are suitable for confident off-piste skiers that are looking to try something different.

The Ski Club of Great Britain bought Mountain Tracks last winter and is now incorporated into its Freshtracks holiday programme.
Last January the PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, skied with Nick Parks from MountainTracks in Zinal and Grimentz in Switzerland.

The essential skills will be practiced safely in an alpine environment in glaciated terrain.

If you are training for a tour later in the season like the Haute Route the courses are the perfect preparation.

International Association of Mountain Guide Association (IFMGA) guides & instructors teach the course.
