The GB slalom skier is back from South America & was heading indoors to train but a good glacier forecast prompts a change of plan. NEW & UPDATED

Ryding was planning to spend 3 weeks indoors at Hamburg in Germany as the most important season of his career approaches.

But on Monday he was, instead, heading for Saas-Fee in Switzerland after a favourable weather forecast.

Conditions on the glacier are expected to be good for some early season training.

"Our training plans often change due to weather and snow conditions," he told us.

"My coach Tristan had planned to do three weeks in Germany at the indoor centre in Wittenberg, but with the weather looking good in the Alps, and snow conditions on the glaciers good, we have changed plans at the last minute and will head to Saas Fee for training this week and early next week."

Earlier Ryding had given an interview to the Reuters news agency about his plans for Germany:

"I like to go indoors because I know what I'm going to get.  Every day's going to be the same and I get some sort of consistency to try and work on aspects of my skiing."

"Say you were to go to a glacier in Austria or wherever, then you get a lot of variable weather and conditions."

Many other teams and racers head to the glaciers in Austria that are now open for skiing but The Rocket likes the consistency indoors.

He also started on artificial slopes here in the UK.

"They (other rivals) think I'm crazy, but I've grown up on those short dry ski slopes which are the same length if not shorter," said Ryding.

"I really like it there (indoors). They seem to think it drives them crazy after four days but that's just how I was brought up I guess."

Over the summer he has been training in Argentina and also on the glacier in Saas-Fee.

With the Olympic Games looming British Ski and Snowboard has been speaking of potential medal success on snow for Team GB.

But there are security concerns on the Korean peninsular given the international security situation with North Korea continuing with nuclear tests and a war of words between President Trump and President Kim Jong Un.

But Ryding will not be focusing his mind on any of that over the next few weeks when he is indoors in Hamburg.

He will be working solely on his skiing.
